"One of the first, one of the best."
Troop 1 Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

Check out our Facebook Page at "BSA Troop 1 Ballston Spa, NY"

Troop 1 invites boys ages 10-17 to join us any Monday evening during the school year at 7:00pm at the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church for a meeting and to find out what Scouting is all about.  Enter through the door behind the church into the basement.

Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout Nick Paone!

Thank you Mrs Hosek for the picture!

Camping Merit Badge Helpful Resources

Month 1 General Merit Badge Requirements:

 MeritBadgeDot.org:  http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Camping

This site lists all the requirements for the Camping Merit Badge.  This site also includes links in the requirements that bring you to pages of helpful information.  For example, requirement 2 says: “Learn the Leave No Trace principles and the Outdoor Code and explain what they mean. Write a personal plan for implementing these principles on your next outing.“   When you click on “Leave No Trace” it takes you to a page that describes the principles.

Month 2 Requirement 1

 Wikibooks: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Scouting/BSA/Camping_Merit_Badge

Gives you information on altitude sickness and reminds you to get the other information from your scout book.

Month 3 Requirement 9A and 9B:

 Bryan on Scouting:  http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2012/06/07/ask-the-expert-interpreting-camping-merit-badge-requirement-9a/

This is a blog where this person answered questions about what counts for the 20 nights of camping.  He describes many different examples of what works and what doesn’t.
